Youth
Youth Ministry is an active Christian Youth Group. Our age group is for Jr High and Sr High aged youth.
Our mission is to provide youth with:
- ways that youth can can learn God’s word and effectively apply it to their lives;
- ways that youth can show God’s love to others by applying what they have learned about service in God’s name;
- ways to enjoy being friends and hanging out in a positive atmosphere making all who attend welcome;
- ways to show thier love of God with praise and worship as part of a group or as an individual.
We have a wide variety of programs and activities for our youth to participate in.
Weekly Programs
Sunday School
Junior/ Senior High Sunday School is held on Sunday morning at 9:30. This class meet in the Junior High room (below the sanctuary).
Messengers Gospel Choir
The Messengers Gospel Choir is made up of 7th graders through young adults who enjoy singing for worship services and special events. They meet in the Choir Room below the Sanctuary on the 3rd and 4th Thursdays at 5:30 pm.
UMYF
The UMYF meets almost every Sunday evening during the school year from 6-8 PM. This is a combined group of Jr and Sr High students. They meet in the Jr. High room which is on the lower level of the sanctuary building. Weekly meetings consist of Bible Study, prayer, fellowship and fun. They also schedule fun outings at this time. Contact Bill Walker for more information.
Yearly Local Events
Confirmation
By the time a young person reaches 7th grade he or she has the opportunity to learn in more detail what it means to be a Christian & a member of the Church. Through a series of steps, study & introspection one makes their own decision to CONFIRM their baptism and to join the congregation of the Methodist Church as a full, participating member.
Youth Sunday
Each year the youth do the entire worship service on Youth Sunday. From singing or scripture reading to delivering a message, they serve the Lord and their Church family with gladness & joy!
Summer Programming
During the summer vacation from school many families take vacations, their schedules become unpredictable, and youth programs change a bit. We meet one to three times a week to go to the beach, have a BBQ and Discussion, and to go on trips to fun places like Knotts or Raging Waters or have pool parties.
District Events
Junior High Camp
Junior High Camp usually takes place mid-July in the Angeles Mountains at Camp Colby. It is a week of discovery, of relationships and of experiencing .the love of Christ surrounded by the beauty of nature and people your own age. This event is open to 6th-9th graders.
Senior High Camp
Senior High Camp takes place around the last week of July and first week of August at Camp Colby, a United Methodist Campground. ‘Church Camp’ is more than a week in the mountains. It’s a week of discovery, of relationships and of experiencing the love of Christ surrounded by the beauty of nature. This camp is open to people entering 9th grade through graduated seniors.
Conference Events
Youth Alive
Every year the California-Pacific Conference sponsors this event during the President’s Day holiday weekend for youth in grades 9-12. With dynamic speakers, awesome music, challenging programs, Bible study, and ‘more fun than you ever had’, this weekend of fellowship with youth from all over Southern California usually exceeds expectations.
Spirit Quest
The Junior High equivalent to Youth Alive is held in April.
Global Events
Every 4 years the Youth Gathering of The United Methodist Church takes place. It draws thousands of youth from all over the globe to one amazing event. During the five days of music, praise, prayer, learning, and growth, participants will be challenged to go back into their communities ready to make a difference in God’s world and to live out their faith in ways they never thought possible. The next gathering is scheduled for 2011.
At Santa Clarita United Methodist Church we continue to look for opportunities for youth to participate in the life & ministry of the Church, as well as occasions for serious study, service, fellowship, mission & worship. Youth also serve on many of the Church committees and Commissions, including the Administrative Council and, of course, the COYM (Council on Youth Ministries).
