At Santa Clarita United Methodist Church we happen to agree. There are many kinds of groups here and all are encouraged to find a group that fits your style and needs. Take a look at the groups below and call the church office or the contact person listed to get additional information on how to join one of these groups.
Bible Study Groups:
Men’s Bible Study
This group is open to all men and meets on Sunday mornings form 10-10:50 for six weeks at a time. Contact Dave MacKinnon at (661) 505-7081 for more information. All men are invited to join.
Women’s Bible Study
This group is a part of our ministry to seniors. They meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday mornings in the Fireside Room for study, prayer and fellowship. All women are invited to come and bring friends to this lively group.
Betwixt and Between (B&B)
This is a lectionary-based study group that meets Sunday mornings between the services from 10:15-10:45. They study the same scriptures the sermons are based on each Sunday. Copies of the lectionary readings for each Sunday is available and all adults are invited to join this group. Contact Mary Tedrow at (661) 644-6345 for more information.
Wesleyan Spiritual Group
This is a new small group based on John Wesley’s model of an accountability group. They meet at Panera Bread Company on McBean Pkwy. at 7:45-8:45 on Tuesdays starting Sept. 25. Pastor Melissa is this group’s leader. Please contact Pastor Melissa at the church office for more information.
Five Alive is a mixed group of adults that meets at noon most Sundays. They use Bible studies, devotionals and books as study guides. All adults are invited to join in the spirited discussions by this group. More information is available by calling Candy Holsenbeck-Smith at the church.
This group of families with children who are college age or older, meets monthly for social activities.
This group of seniors meets monthly for lunch and occasionally for other social events. Events for fall include:
Maturing Ministries is a spiritual, fellowship, dining group. They meet at 9:30 the 2nd and 4th Friday in the Fireside Room. Contact Mary Tedrow at (661) 644-6345 for more information.
Women’s Book Club
Meets 3rd Wednesday of the month at 7:00 P.M. in the Teacher’s Lounge to discuss the book of the month. All adults are encouraged to read the books and come for the discussions. Call the church office for more information.
Mom ‘N Me
Friday’s 2:30 p.m. in the nursery. For information call Amy Dell at 250-9363.
iFAM is our new fellowship group for families with children in elementary school & younger, and Young Married Couples without children. This group meets monthly with events that include children as well as events that are just for couples. If you would like more information about iFAM please call the church office at 661-297-3783. The fall events for this group include:
Commission on the Status and Role of Women is a group of energetic women who sponsor the annual Women’s Retreat and raise money for the local Domestic Violence Center through fundraisers. They have craft days and a craft boutique, wrapping parties and fundraisers at local restaurants. This is a fun group that all women are invited to join. Fall events include:
Blanket Brigade meets every 2nd Saturday from 9-11 am. They knit, crochet and cut blankets from fleece. The blankets they make are given to various social service agencies. This is a fun group for anyone who likes to make blankets or who is interested in learning. This group also takes donations of yarn, fleece and crochet thread. Family Support Group:
Family Support Group This group provides support for families during times of need or crisis by providing meals and/or transportation. You can be a part of this group by providing prepared meals, giving gift cards to restaurants and grocery stores, providing transportation to doctor’s visits and being willing to pick kids up from school. Call the church office to get your name on the list of caregivers. You will be called when needs arise. Contact Nicola Foley at (661) 254-3542 for more information.
Hospitality Team They are the greeters every Sunday at both church services. They distribute WELCOME packets and contact absent members to let them know they are missed. They also serve luncheons at new members functions. ,This committee meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Youth Building and new members are always welcome. Prayer Group meets on the first and third Sunday of each month 10 minutes after the end of the 9:00 service. Anyone and everyone is welcome to join the group; no experience necessary. If anyone has a prayer request that is not listed in the bulletin, a note to Jayme Allsman or Pastor Melissa will bring their request to the group. Monday Night Tutoring:
Monday Night Tutoring takes place Monday’s Sept. through May from 6-8 pm on days when school is in session. It is for anyone interested in helping local children improve their skills. Spanish speakers are especially needed. It’s a great way to make a difference in the life of a child. Contact Candy Holsenbeck-Smith at the church for more information.
Health and Wellness:
Health and Wellness provides healthy fruit on Sunday mornings during coffee hour, they also conduct high blood pressure screenings every month. This is the group that keeps all of the first aid kits up to date, the AED units serviced and provides CPR and first aid training yearly. New members are always welcome and they meet the third Sunday of the month. Good Time Bowlers
The team bowls in a league at Santa Clarita Lanes on Soledad Canyon Rd. The league consists of six 5-person teams with a total of 30 bowlers and they bowl on Tuesday nights. Senior Fitness With Michelle
Senior Fitness With Michelle is a group that meets every Thursday morning from 9:30-11:00 for exercise in Fellowship Hall. This is a low-impact exercise class that is perfect for seniors. Each class costs $3 and no reservations or additional equipment is required. Contact the church office for more information.
