Change Changes A Life
A Disciple’s Path study has reminded me of Wesley’s simple rules on money from his sermon, “The Use of Money.” Wesley’s simple rules were; Gain all you can without hurting your health, without hurting your mind or without hurting your neighbor, Save all you can, not hoarding but living in prudent and unwasteful ways so you can save, and Give all you can so that we live out the generosity of God. These rules/guides many of us Methodist know by heart and try to live. Today as I opened my homepage an article stood out about a boy who sent all he had, $3.36 to his favorite football player, Brandon Jacobs. He sent the money to keep his favorite player on the Giants; money negations were in process and this boy proactively sent the money he had saved. He believed it would help to keep his favorite player playing. What happened is Jacob personally returned the money and took the boy and his brother out for a fun day. The $3.36 was not enough to keep Jacob playing for the Giants yet, it has inspired him to keep playing. Jacobs said, ”I’m at a point in my career when people have stopped believing in me and not believing that I can still play, but that’s not the case. Joe believes in me, gave me a lot of confidence and a lot of want-to. And I’m ready to go. I can’t wait until the season starts.” When we begin to doubt that our contributions do help, when we wonder if what little we give and do for good will really have an effect, this kid’s “giving all he could” reminds us that he changed the world and effected the life of a professional athlete with his change.
